the owl and the pussycat…
What a special day for The Gandelow Gang – it was, in a word, ‘magic’.
Settling everyone in again with a beautifully illustrated story we planted little seeds of possibilities in the children’s eager minds and helped them focus on the class theme and tasks ahead. After chatting about the ‘pea green boat’ in the story the kids lept up and ran to their seats at the thought of making their own. Colour decisions were made quickly and off they took – they were so focussed. When their boats were left aside to dry they turned their attention to the sails, some choosing to draw, others to create patterns on paper with some cork stamps we had made for them. And the cherry on the cake was when we surprised them all the essentials to make toilet roll owls and pussy cats to complete the story.
They couldn’t wait for their little friends to hop onboard and take off home to float in the paddling pools – wet paint patches weren’t going to stand in their way :)
Bon Voyage Kiddos, from Captain Kidult :)
And to my first mate Grainne Moloney I salute you for your boundless energy and wide eyed enthusiasm – Grainne put huge prep time in during the week for today’s classes, sometimes making cardboard boats until 4am!! She is ‘the bomb’ :)
The picture book we used to theme this class was “The Owl & The Pussycat’ by Dublin Author Edward Lear. The pea green boat beautifully illustrated in the book was very ‘gandelow’ like :)
